Loving the Moment

Posted by Monte Stevens (Westerville, United States) on 5 May 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture.

Some mornings do not start out well. I’ve woken with aches and stiffness in my body from not sleeping well and my mind unsettled. Today my mind is wandering to other places, wanting to be here or there, to have this or that. Why do I want when I have so much? While walking around the sculpture park I noticed this sculpture called, Loving the Moment. Lesson for me is to embrace the moment, accept the present; we are where we are supposed to be, be who we are. Tomorrow will give us opportunities to be present to other moments.

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
