All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. ~Ralph Ellison, "Battle Royal"

Really great portrait, Monte. Striking! I like the composition and light and soft tones. The photos are a definite plus, telling us something about yourself. You did a fabulous job setting this up. Excellent results. I love that penetrating look!
The quote resonates strongly with me. It is taking me a lifetime to learn to trust and accept myself as I am.

I think this is a striking portrait. The lighting is superb across the face, and the whole image looks natural.

Terrific portrait, Monte, and a very interesting verse by Ellison to accompany it. The light is very natural and balanced, providing a nice soft wash across your face. What also strikes me are the framed photographs in the background (which I assume are yours) which represent a part of "just me" as well.

@Ron: Yes, those are my prints. It was just 5 years ago that I framed any of my images. Feels good to that!
great portrait - nice to see the photos in the background - I hope those are your shots

@Jason Kravitz: Yes, they are mine.
Superb portrait! I don't know if your like me but I don't like to see me on pictures! I'm better behind the camera...

@Martine Lapointe: I feel comfortable in both places when I'm the photographer and the model. If I'm the model but not the photographer then it is different. Monte
A beautiful portrait!
